If you are interested in how and why rockets and spaceships fly, aerodynamics, micro gravity, astronaut training, rocket launching, extraterrestrial travel, and the role of radar and weather then the Space Fight Academy is the place to be this summer! You will be training alongside fellow space explorers at an operational NASA space facility! At Space Fight Academy you don't' just hear what astronauts do, you'll do some of the things astronauts do.
You will work with fellow space explorers to repair the malfunctioning Hubble Space Telescope in "Alien Encounter" a small group exercise. In another exercise, "Project Space Colony" you will design a space station. That's not all! You will engineer a simulated rocket launch in an actual NASA mission control room while seated behind a computer console with individual earphones and microphone during the launch. You will also visit many of the departments at NASA Wallops Flight Facility to learn what their role is in launching rockets into space.

Space Flight Academy is a weeklong residential summer camp for students interested in learing about the science and engineering of rockets and space flight.

The Academy is held at Wallops Flight Facility, an operationa NASA installation located on Virginia's Eastern Shore. Space Flight Academy is supported by the Virginia Space Flight Center, NASA Wallops Flight Facility, the Eastern Shore Regional Partnership, the U.S. Navy, and NOAA.

All camps are a mixture of excitement and fun with hands-on and minds-on experiences. Come and meet new friends and enjoy the adventure of learning about space.

Space Flight Academy began at NASA Walops Flight Facillity the summer of 1998. Due to its success, the program has now grown from one camp to five. Each session begins on Sunday afternoon and ends on Friday at 4:00 P.M.

Campers are responsible for arranging transportation to and from the Academy on Virginia's Eastern Shore.

Four camps for ages 12-14 will be held June through August. Advanced Camp for ages 14-16 will be held August 12-1.
